Monday Mar 16, 2020
Monday Mar 16, 2020
It's time for another episode of 'The Bakery Bears Radio Show!'
Thanks to some truly awful weather, we're seventy two hours late with the show! But we've made it, and what a show we have in store. Before we get started though, we just wanted to mention the challenges that the world is facing at the moment. Thanks to Dans cancer journey, we have some perspective on trying to deal effectively with stressful situations. The one thing that we desperately wanted through the dark times of Dans journey, was to feel normal. So, that is what we will be doing everything in our power to bring you every two weeks, a little bit of normal. Weather permitting, the Radio Show will always be here and we will always be thinking of all of you.
In todays show we are heading out for a wet and windy walk in search of a Victorian Bandstand. Along the way we are discussing one of Dan's favourite topics, the Romans! We're pondering the that famous question posed by Monty Python in the Life of Brian, 'What did the Romans ever do for us'.
Join your hosts, Dan & Kay as they:
- Discuss why they love the Romans so much
- Remember Dans first exposure to a Roman archaeological site - you can read his article on this subject in this issue 19 of Knitability https://bakerybears.com/read/
- Discuss their trip to Rome in 2005 - Dan was reading 'Emperor - The Gates of Rome' whilst on the trip https://www.goodreads.com/series/44444-emperor
- If you would like to read more about this subject you can do so here http://blog.english-heritage.org.uk/what-did-the-romans-do-for-us/

Today you join us as we go in search of a boating lake. At the height of the age of the railways, our home town was like a Monaco of the 1900's and on the outskirts of town from 1900-1920, there was a huge boating lake.

We are BACK with a brand new episode of 'The Radio Show'!
After a short break, we have returned for the first in our regular run of radio shows for 2020. This year we are so excited to bring a little change to the show. Each episode we'll still be talking through our topic of the day, but instead of walking our usual route, join us on a different adventure every episode!
We have found a wonderful selection of old photographs featuring local historic places and events. Some of these photographs are from the 1880's. Each episode we will try and find where one of these photographs was taken and snap a shot of ourselves in the same spot today! We'll then share the photos on Kay's Instagram https://www.instagram.com/bryonybears/ - our Patreon page https://www.patreon.com/bakerybearspodcast and in the Bakery Bears Radio Show Facebook Group
So join your hosts today as they:
- Discuss positive inertia and the benefits it has brought to the start of their 2020
- Talk lots of local history as they set out on a route taking in some of the golden age of steam
- Try and find Brunswick Street, famous for its 1953 Queens Coronation Street Party
